Among the city's other museums are the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens and the newly opened Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art. The Jacksonville Zoological Gardens contain a 17-acre/7-hectare African veldt, a baby-animal nursery and a walk-through aviary.

The Kingsley Plantation State Historic Site on Fort George Island (15 miles/25 kilometres east of downtown Jacksonville) and is the oldest plantation house in Florida. Golf courses abound, with more than 50 from which to choose. Nearby beaches include Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach. Jacksonville is 140 miles /225 kilometres north of Orlando.
